Belmont: Fast, firm and breezy

Email

First full week of Belmont begins with a fast main track, firm turf and a stiff headwind that will be in the horse's faces down the backside.

A handful of scratches, the most notable ones being in the fifth race with No Rhyme Or Reason and Diva in Training, who were both dropping in class. Elite Miss is also scratched out of the fifth. Scratches or no scratches Positive Prospect, first-time Rudy Rodriguez, remains the horse to beat.

Other scratches include Liza Too (1st), La Busta (2nd), Eagle Strike (3rd), Aidan's Slew, Driven by Fear, Quickstone, Crescent Moon Dr and Sea of Liquidity (6th), Six Clicks (7th), Sorority Sister (8th), S S Traverse (9th).

Alex Solis will not ride today or tomorrow at Belmont. He is in Northern California where his cousin Michael Martinez, a jockey at Golden Gate Fields, was seriously injured in a spill at that track on Sunday. Alan Garcia picks up the mount on Wild Banshee, Solis' only scheduled mount of the day.

Victor Santiago replaces Antonio Lopez on The Mules Sister in 5th.
