Belmont: Fast & firm

The rain that delayed last night's Yankee game evidently didn't stretch from The Bronx to Long Island, because we're fast and firm.

The bad news: Didn't have either Speedy's Gal (1st, $8.00) or Labor Harmony (2nd, $12.00).

The good news: A good ol' daily double criss-cross caught the $54.50 double.

Speedy's Gal was the third winner in the last five starters for David Donk, who saddled off-the-turf maiden winner Hessonite ($17.20) Saturday and Strike the Bell ($10.80) in Sunday's Grade 3 Noble Damsel.

Labor Harmony altered course off the inside late and ran down pacesetter Brahman while in hand late under Ramon Dominguez, as Rick Dutrow Jr. improved to 5 for 20 with debuting maiden claimers in 2009-10.
