Belmont: Fast & firm

The main track is fast, the turf courses are firm, and the heat & humidity is magically gone thanks to a brisk northwesterly wind (headwind backstretch).

In the $55,000 optional claiming feature (8th), Rogue Victory gets some class relief in his return from Gulfstream Park, after tangling with the likes of three-time Grade 3 winner Little Mike and Right One (2 for 2 in the U.S. and bound for next week's Poker) in Florida. It's a tricky six-horse field on the inner turf, though, and the pace projects to be moderate to slow, which could benefit either Colonialism or Dominant Jeannes.

Flying Zee Stable, the meet-leading owner with eight wins heading into the four-day week, has contenders in three earlier allowance races: Life's Measure (3rd), who will probably be second choice behind Island School; Lady Vi and entrymate Those Lion Eyes (5th), who are 6-5 morning-line favorites over Gambling Geraldine; and Nurse Dolce (9th), who will be no worse than second choice.
