BC by the Beyers

Submitted for your consideration are the Breeders' Cup pre-entrants and their Beyer Speed Figures in five categories: their last race (Last); their career-best figure, regardless of surface (Top); and their career-best figures on dirt (TopDirt), synthetic (TopSynth) and turf (TopTurf).

A notation of "??" instead of a numeral indicates a category where the entrant has run on the surface in question but has not recorded a Beyer, primarily European horses. The "---" notation means that the horse has never run on that surface. The highlighted column (blue for synthetic, green for turf) reflects the surface on which the BC race will be run.

The column headed HWL (Highest Winning Level) to the left of the figures records the best type of race each horse has won -- maiden, allowance, stakes or graded stakes.

In total, 23 horses -- 20 (of the 84 entered) in synth races, and three in grass races -- will be trying a surface for the first time. All eight main-track races have at least one entrant who has never raced on any kind of synthetic track before, including five in the Classic (Giralamo, Quality Road, Rip Van Winkle, Summer Bird, Twice Over) and half of the 14 2-year-olds expected to contest the Juvenile.

I'll repost these figures Tuesday as part of a Master Cheat Sheet after final entries are taken and post positions are drawn. The draw starts at 3:30 pm ET and will be telecast by HRTV.

There's an interesting horse in the Dirt Mile. Neiko Bay Sherrifs is a very conservative trainer and this horse is cheap on paper, but, his figures aren't too far off and maybe he has a chance to win or hit the board at a large price.

Last year it was bombs away with some Euros. This year its the Euro underlay angle. Euros figure to be overbet on synthetic. At this early time I feel like biggest overlay will be Gio Ponti. With Rip and Zenyatta hyped and coming off a loss to Interpretation! I'm hoping for 14-1. This horse has right style, see Manhattan and Arl Million. Bombs away!!!!

Steve, Thanks for all the posts, seems like Saratoga all over again. I was reading "Betting On Myself" and wondered if you will ever do a part 2?

Steve, Had to chime in to thank you for all the great tables recently. They're a source of much enjoyment. walt p: Not for nuthin' Walt, but the over/under on the number of times you've commented on "the Asia-Pacific region" and next years BC being at night has to be around 25. You want the over or under?

Steve, Royer-Dupre's entry in Friday's Filly & Mare Sprint - Sweet Hearth - is listed in that race in the NY Post Pre-Entries, but is not listed as an entry in that race, above. I know it was SC'ed from Saturday's Dirt Mile; was it also KO'ed out of Friday's F&M Sprint? Also, shouldn't the BC be finalizing the cards (who's running, who's not, & where) at least four days prior to Friday, not just two - Having expanded the event into two days & increasing the number of entries by at least 100%?

Dear Steve,Here is my assessment for the upcoming weekend. To all those that complain about "Polycrap" forget about it, this track is FAR different than last year. This year, you can achieve success, the horses are running true to form UNLIKE last year when they only ran in SPOTS. You' got to sit back and "tip your hat" to that fine group of used CAR SALESMEN that accurately assessed the intelligence of our racing leaders, when they SOLD them on that "pancake mix".We should be GRATEFUL those guys don't play the horses, Hell they would have ALL are money. I'm playing only horses from Europe that can "QUICKEN" if they come from BEHIND and can't quicken they have LITTLE chance on this super GLIB grass course.IF the main track stays the same good speed horses will have a big edge. If your playing a DEEP closer be WARNED if Gomez has a mount that also closes he is GOING TO swing the WHOLE field VERY wide, he has been doing this all month. If your betting the sprints and you have a speed horse and Tyler Baze has a mount YOUR horse WILL NOT get an easy led. Tyler is the best gate rider on the West Coast.. Good luck to all and for crying out loud do your HOMEWORK..............LOL

The " Unknown " makes racing a challange. Risk for Reward. I,m sticking with turf only races. That,s enough action for me. Looking foward to CD nrxt year. Great BC to all.
