Arlington: Wet turf seems taxing

Saturday conditions: Turf yielding with rail in lane 4. 63 degrees, south (cross) wind, 6-10 mph.

Day's first turf heat, race 5, now in the books, and this wet grass course appears to be quite demanding. Visually, these horses -- albeit $25K maiden-claimers of moderate quality -- really struggled coming home, an appearance confirmed by the timer, which showed a final half-furlong in just under 7 seconds, and that after a slow pace. I would not be betting with confidence in the upcoming turf heats, including co-featured Arlington Classic, unless I have a horse with proven form over a wet course.

Winner of race 5 was 15-race maiden Bellerive, second win on the card for combination of trainer Tom Swearingen and jockey Jermaine Bridghmohan.
