Arlington: Unbiased Friday

Two front-end winners -- one inside and one pressing the pace a couple paths wide -- and two outside closers have won the first four Polytrack races today. That's fair, and that's a good thing. Times seem somewhat slow by American racing standards but are definitely in the average range for this main track when viewing the meet as a whole.

It's clear and it's warm, around 83, but nothing like we're going to get starting Sunday, when the temp rises into the 90s and stays there -- indefinitely.

Day's first turf race, the 5th, was run 10 feet outside lane 5, but they're also using lane 1. It's worth paying attention to rail position. Speed tends to stick better on the outside track. The grass is firm - very firm
