Arlington: Two-thirds of Saturday

No biases, especially on turf, where, after deep closers won the day's first two grass races, Brunzer just set a fast pace and still wired race 6, a $5K starter allowance. First start for trainer Danny Miller, who is hot right now. Fractions of 23.32 seconds and 47.99 for the quarter and half -- my heavens! An actual legit pace. Giant Shift came from the back of the pack, but his rally fell a neck short. Smokealongthetrack, the 8-5 chalk off Ellis and Indiana Downs turf form, never factored.

Race 5 came to us live from Doncaster in England. Wait - what? No? You could've fooled me. Sure looked like a group of Euro-jocks out there taking the biggest holds imaginable even though the opening quarter of this $5K claimer, a one-turn Poly-mile, went in a mind-bending 25.81 seconds. Yep - a near-26-second opening quarter down the straightaway. Needless to say, a closer -- favored Fast Promises -- won.

No allowance races on this card, but looking forward to the 2yo maidens in race 8. Catalano-trained entry looks live.
