Arlington: Off turf, Poly quick enough

Email

Reportedly about five inches of rain fell at the track during the three dark days earlier this week, so off turf today -- not a bad thing, since this course have been heavily used.

West wind about 10-15 mph, which has pushed fractional times quicker than one might expect, but even factoring in wind, I'd say the Poly is on the fast side. Not that my judgement is so precise at the moment, since I spent last racing week in the woods of northern Minnesota.

Off-the-turf 2yo mile moved to two turns on the main track, which seems weird, since we don't do two-turn 2yos at AP, just one-turn miles. Most of the field totally laid down, with second-time starter Crepe Myrtle rallying up the fence under Mike Baze to get up by a nose.

Pure Polished continues dominating lower-end f & m Poly-sprint claimers, claimed for third straight time out of third straight win in race 1.

Helliecat's blowout race 3 win aided by leading through very slow early pace.

Timely Pursuit finished up with good energy to take race 6, an off-the-turf MSW route. Lightly raced 3yo hadn't been out since February, and is worth keeping an eye on.
