Arlington: Off turf, on lead

Email

Gavilan came up the fence to win the opener, so maybe it's the rail as much as speed that's good, but races 2 and 3 had a classical speed-biased appearance. Always looked like the front-runner was going best, and anything trying to rally wide stopped cold. The second and the third were at two turns, race 1 a one-turn mile, which is a little odd, since on recent speed-oriented days it has been the one-turn races that were more effected. But right now -- in routes at least - I am strictly looking for a horse who can get to the front and the rail.

Off turf today. Temp low 60s, wind northeast (cross/tail) 6-12 mph.
