Arlington: Turf course yielding, closers winning

The grass called yielding after the 10-minute downpour, and that seems reasonable given the winning time in the two subsequent turf races. Two-year-old maiden race, the third, went in 1:41.94 for a mile, and just-run race 4, an open $18K claimer, went in 1:39.20 for the same distance. Those times, with the rail 10 feet inside lane 1, are pretty slow.

Won't make too much of a two-race sample, but closers were best in both grass races so far. Doctor Carina aired for Tom Proctor / Garrett Gomez in the $18K claimer, while first-turfer Burn the Mortgage looked pretty good clearing maiden ranks in second try for Wayne Catalano / Joel Rosario. Son of Kitten's Joy very leggy and has stride a mile long. Two wins already for Rosario.
