Arlington: Tazz, Hooh Why win Illinois Owners Stakes

Tazz ($10.40) skimmed the rail under Seth Martinez and won the male division of the $60,000 Illinois Owners Stakes, race 6 on the card. Interestingly. Tazz was announced as a $50,000 claim after finishing sixth as the 4-5 favorite here July 16, but a short time later, the claim was announced as voided. Given the way Tazz performed that afternoon, it seemed like trainer Larry Rivelli and owner Richard Ravin had dodged a bullet. Things look different now.

Hooh Why ($35) seemed like a synthetic horse through and through -- until race 8, the female division of the Illinois Owners. Unplaced in her lone prior turf try, Hooh Why turned back the strech challenge of 1-2 favorite Askbut I Won'ttell and scored a fairly comfortable win in the one and one-sixteenth mile turf race. Have to think this opens a whole new world, grass, for the accomplished 5yo mare.

Now, the question is whether AP can get in race 10 before darkness falls here. It's already dim seven minutes to race 9.
