Arlington: Sunday double for new Arlington trainer Dorochenko

Someone in the press box just wondered if Gennadi Dorochenko had started far more horses at the meet than any other trainer. He hasn't, but the question made sense, since Dorochenko's has been a steady presence since this meet began on May 6. Dorochenko, a former jockey and Russian immigrant, sent out starters 16, 17, and 18 on today's program, and went 2-3 with his runners. That's five wins at the meet, putting Dorochenko second in the trainer standings. The guy has a lot of synthetic horses and, apparently, cheaper horses with conditions, meaning he should fit this meet quite well. Santina Dond, Dorochenko's winner in race 3, is a higher-quality sort, however. This filly went 2-2 in Poland to start her career last season, won a Mountaineer allowance race in her US debut, was a close ninth in the Appalachian Stakes on Keeneland turf last out, and wired a second-level allowance in a game performance today. Jozbin Santana was up.
