Arlington: Still no line on Poly

Email

Since three of the five races in the books have been contested on turf, its a little hard to make judgements about the Poly. We surmised at day's start that with wet and cool weather, the main track could carry speed. It has, but both winners, Western Woods in race 2 and Hydroplane in race 4, were solid favorites. Their winning doesn't tell us much. If, say, Mon Jolene were to wire the upcoming 6th, then we'd be talking.

Protection Game just held off Caldo Cat in race 5, a $17.5K maiden-claimer on turf. Grass called good, but would seem to be on the yielding side of good, based on times and the way horses are finishing. Looks like outside turf paths might be better, as well. Common Sense rallied way wide to capture race 3, a 2yo $25K maiden-claimer. Meanwhile, 5-2 chalk Webster just stopped after setting a moderate pace along the rail in the fifth.
