Arlington: Saint Leon sharp in Wednesday feature win

Not really sure how Saint Leon was let go at odds of 10-1 in featured race 9 here Wednesday, but I was among the foolish who did not get down on the horse. Thought there was too much early speed for a front-runner to win this six-furlong Poly race for second-level allowance horses or $40K claimers, but Saint Leon proved quickest of the quick, something that often happens when jock E.T. Baird is involved. Pace to the half-mile was 46 seconds flat -- fast but not all that fast - and Saint Leon was well clear through fast final time of about 1:10.2. First start since December for Saint Leon, who is trained by Michele Boyce, but this horse ran very fast on Poly coming back from a layoff last season. Well best, first-claimed Homebokyris did not get involved.
