Arlington: Friday final

Decent day's racing, good crowd -- all in all, an all-right start to the Arlington 2011 meet.

We've had a lot, lot, lot of rain recently. The turf is rated good, but surely trends good-to-soft more than good-to-firm. Three grass races on the day, two to closers, one to a stalker. No apparent bias, with times about where one would expect considering course conditions and placement of rail way out in lane 5.

Perfect Casting, back-class horse, won the closer, an $18K turf claimer, giving trainer Larry Rivelli two wins on the card and jockey Junior Alvardo three. Expect both to stay strong throughout opening weekend, and probably through the meet. Alvarado should have a good chance to be leading rider.
