Arlington: Friday condtions - sunny, pleasant, & typically confusing

I know, I know, times don't matter. But how can listed-stakes class sprinters run six furlongs in 1:12.38? Polytrack continues to baffle this onlooker. The all weather generally has ranged from slow to glacial throughout this meet, and it still blows my mind than a high-end allowance race with an $80K claiming option can be won with a time this slow.

To add another layer of complexity, the winner was Spectacular Kid, who wore down favored pace-setter Saint Leon in the final strides at odds of 14-1. Ironically, Spectacular Kid took all kinds of betting action on July 15 when he was nearly favored to beat Saint Leon in a turf race where Saint Leon proved much the best. Historically, Saint Leon has seemed a touch better on Polytrack than turf, while Spectacular Kid entered this race having failed to win in 11 synthetic-surface tries. Total role reversal.

The inside of the main track seemed like the place to be yesterday. Can't say that looks like the case today after watching Saint Leon get run down.
