Aqueduct: Thunderwave catches Hold That Memory

Email

Even in the state-bred maiden claiming ranks, Todd Pletcher's 2-year-olds are the ones to beat. First-time starter Thunderwave rallied from midpack to run past loose-on-the-lead Hold That Memory, the 6-5 favorite, and take the second under seven-pound apprentice Jaime Rodriguez.

Alex Solis rode Hold That Memory and looked as if he was on his way to sweeping the early double but Hold That Memory could not hold that lead after running moderate fractions.

A horse from this race to keep an eye on might be fourth-place finisher Raecinjasin, who took significant money at 5-1. The first-time starter trained by Dominic Galluscio got bothered at the start, took a ton of dirt in his face, and rallied along the rail under seven-pound apprentice Brian Pedroza. He had to alter course late to go around a tiring Hold That Memory or he possibly could have been third. He galloped out strongly.
