Aqueduct: Rodriguez off rest of weekend

Email

Apprentice jockey Jaime Rodriguez had to be taken off his remaining three mounts on Saturday and won't be able to ride Sunday due to an issue regarding his apprentice status.

When Rodriguez guided Marina Market to victory in the second race, it was his 40th career victory. For most riders, that means a reduction to a five-pound apprentice from seven. But since his first career win came more than a year ago, Rodriguez would have lost his apprentice status and had to become a journeyman.

Rodriguez is eligible to apply for an extension of his apprenticeship due to injuries. However, he has not yet filed the proper paperwork to get that extension. If he files the paperwork on Monday, Rodriguez may be able to ride on Wednesday.

The changes for the remainder of Saturday's card are Eddie Castro on Acadian Blues in the sixth and Castro on Zone Breaker in the eighth. A rider has yet to be named for Concert Crew in the ninth.
