Aqueduct: Rodman rolls in Irish Tower

Rodman on Thursday flashed the form that carried him to victory in the 2009 Queens County Handicap by rolling to a 3 1-2-length, front-running victory in the $60,000 Irish Tower Stakes. Rodman missed his entire 5-year-old season due to infirmities and finished second to a loose-on-the-lead Hewitts in a six-furlong race over the inner track in February.

Thursday, stretching out to a mile, Rodman got loose on the lead through fractions of  24.19 seconds, 47.39 and 1:10.79 under Ramon Dominguez yet still finished the mile in a solid 1:34.71. He returned $5.70 as the second choice. Rodman is owned by Barry K. Schwartz and trained by Mike Hushion.

Laysh Laysh Laysh, the 7-5 favorite, rallied to be second by one-half length over stablemate Arson Squad. Both of those horses are trained by Richard Dutrow Jr.

The connections of Teaks North appeared to be attempting to see if the Grade 1 winner on turf could handle on dirt. Ah, no. He should stay on the grass.
