Aqueduct: Gracia, Bermudez involved in spill

Email

Jockeys Jason Gracia and Jose Bermudez were both removed from the turf course on stretchers and were immediately transported by ambulance to a local hospital after the two were involved in a gruesome-looking spill during the running of the fourth race.

Gracia, a seven-pound apprentice, was aboard Ryan and Jack when the horse fell -- perhaps after he clipped heels with Atitlan --- around the far turn, hurling Gracia to the ground. Gracia may have hit the bottom of the portable rail. Bermudez was unseated and tossed through the air when his mount, October Dreams, barrelled into Ryan and Jack, an impact which may have been the fatal blow to Ryan and Jack who died. October Dreams got up and galloped away.

Gracia did not show much movement while being attended to by EMS officials. Bermudez did show some movement.

Will provide updates when they become available.
