Aqueduct: Gracia and Bermudez involved in spill

Email

Jockeys Jason Gracia and Jose Bermudez were both taken off the turf course on stretchers and transported by ambulance to a local hospital after being involved in a gruesome-looking spill in the third race.

Gracia, a seven-pound apprentice, was aboard Ryan and Jack, who went down after possibly clipping heels with Atitlan around the far turn. Gracia hit the ground hard and may have even hit the bottom of the portable rail. Bermudez was unseated and hurled through the air when his mount, October Dreams, barrelled into Ryan and Jack, a blow that proved fatal to Ryan and Jack, who fractured his skull and died.

October Dreams got up and galloped through the stretch before being apprehended by an outrider.

Gracia did not show any movement while being attended to by EMT personnell. Bermudez did show some movement.

Will provide updates when they become available.
