Aqueduct: Good Prospect takes opener

Good Prospect ($14.80), under Cornelio Velasquez, stalked from second the pace-setting Bishop of Nola, under David Cohen, then persevered past that rival in deep stretch to get the victory by a head in the opener. Good Prospect, a 6-year-old gelding trained by Linda Rice, was dropping down from the Mohawk Handicap, in which he finished ninth, and was offered for the optional claiming tag of $35,000.

Gimme Credit, the 8-5 favorite, checked in third after racing three wide and in midpack down the backstretch. Trainer Chad Brown was wheeling Gimme Credit back 9 days after he won this same race by a neck on Nov. 18. He too was being offered for $35,000. There were no claims.
