Aqueduct: Fast & good

Email

The main track is fast and the turf is labeled "good," as the second week of the spring meet gets underway on a summer-like afternoon with temperatures expected to reach the low 80s.

Favorites batted .500 (19 for 38) opening week, and picked up where they left off when J J's Prophet (1st, $4.50) led $10k sprinters a merry chase in the opener under Ramon Dominguez.

Indeed, favorites have compiled consistently strong numbers at Aqueduct's five most recent spring meets:

  2009: 69-167 (41%)

  2008: 68-176 (39%)

  2007: 71-157 (45%)

  2006: 66-199 (33%)

  2005: 106-281 (38%)
