Aqueduct: Entrymates go down in 8th race spill

Email

The Chester and Mary Broman-owned entry of Reading Group (trained by Mike Hernandez) and Aheadofthejoneses (trained by John Kimmel) both went down on the far turn in the eighth race, while 2-1 second choice Doast was pulled up in the incident.

Reading Group was bumped hard by a veering-out Aheadofthejoneses midway on the turn, and stumbled and fell, unseating Eddie Castro. Aheadofthejoneses continued for a few more strides before also falling and unseating Edgar Prado.

Doast, just behind the incident, was taken up and walked off the track.

Castro was conscious and complaining of wrist and back pain, and taken to Jamaica Hospital to be evaluated. Prado was taken to first-aid, and released without any reported injuries, though he took off 9th-race runner-up Knock Quietly.

Reading Group and Doast were uninjured; Aheadofthejoneses was bleeding from the nostrils, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
