Aqueduct: Common Currency returns running

Common Currency, a $250,000 yearling purchase in 2008, finally won a maiden race in his third lifetime start and his first as a 4-year-old, squeezing through an opening along the rail under Channing Hill and drawing clear to win by three lengths.

Common Currency was the second winner of the first four on the card to come up the rail, an obvious signal that the inside is a good place to be on this wet, sealed track labeled good.

Nice job by Mike Hushion to have Common Currrency, a son of Exchange Rate, ready to run in his first start since last July 3 when he finished second to Zone Breaker as the 4-5 favorite. Hill benefitted from the absence of Ramon Dominguez, who is in Florida to ride Rule in the Grade 1 Donn.

Flying Valentine was the 8-5 favorite despite not having run since Nov. 2009 He has now finished second in all four of his career starts.
